Can low ferritin cause hair loss? 

Low ferritin hair loss may increase the risk of telogen effluvium. Serum ferritin levels below or equal to 30 ng/ml are strongly associated with ferritin hair loss. To regrow your hair the ferratin levels should be around 50ng/ml.

Low ferritin hair loss can be caused by iron deficiency, significant blood loss, celiac disease, non-celiac gluten intolerance, vegan diets, thyroid problems, menstruation, and pregnancy.

High ferritin and hair loss 

Higher than normal ferritin levels don’t normally cause hair loss. Hyperthyroidism an overactive thyroid often plays a part in the combination of high ferritin and hair loss. Too much iron is stored on your body, which accumulates in tissues and organs affecting their normal function which can cause ferritin hair loss.
